Archaeological museum

The Archaeological museum which housed the exposition “Veliko Tarnovo – the capital of Bulgaria XII – XIV c.” is situated westward to the square of “Saedinenie”. The thousand year old history and culture of the region of Tarnovo is traced out there.

Museum of the Bulgarian Revival and Constituent Assembly

The Museum of the Bulgarian Revival and Constituent Assembly is in the north side of the square “Saedinenie” in Veliko Tarnovo. Its collection is housed in the old Turkish “konak” – the building where the Turkish authorities were.

Museum of Contemporary History

The Museum of contemporary history is situated next to the prison – museum. In the one of the halls is presented the temporary exposition “Veliko Tarnovo and the Bulgarian state system”.

Next Museum of Prison

The museum of prison is situated to the south of the Museum of the Bulgarian Revival and Constituent Assembly. It was built in the middle of the XIX th c. It worked as a prison to 1954.

Sarafkina’s House – museum

During the Revival period Tarnovo was developed as an important military, administrative, craft, trade and cultural center. The economic flourishing was a precondition for the boom of building.

Slaveikov House – museum

Petko Rachov Slaveikov was born here on Nov.17th 1827.He started his work as a teacher in 1843. He was one of the most active leaders of the struggles for independent Bulgarian church.

The Konstantsalieva’s house

The house was built in the end of XVII c. and was reconstructed several times. It is an ethnographic museum in nowadays. The exposition represents the way of life of the wealthy merchants in the period of the zenith of the village XVI- XVII-th c.

Philip Totyo House – museum

The legendary revolutionary leader Todor Todorov Stanchev (Philip Totyo) was born here on April 10th 1830. In 1854 he formed a small military band to be at war with the Ottoman oppressors.

The museum of History in the town of Kilifarevo

The town of Kilifarevo is situated 11 kilometers southwards from Veliko Tarnovo. The exhibition of the museum is located in the so called Saralieva House, which was built in XIX century. Ethnographic complex “Osenarska reka”

The complex is on the banks of Osenarska river, nearby the small village of Gartsite, about 40 km south of Veliko Tarnovo. A traditional house and a water mill can be seen there.
